Background
Bio-Process Innovation, Inc. (BPI), a biotech R&D company founded in 1984, develops processes & technologies for the conversion of biomass feedstocks to high value bio-products: ethanol, single cell protein, organic acids, flavor compounds, yeast products, beers & wines, feed / food products, and bio-pharmaceuticals.
BPI is a leading technology provision company in the production of biofuels and bio-products from biomass materials, offering: technology licensing, collaboration on research projects & grants, confidential technology & IP development, technology verification / valuation / scale-up, and consulting services.
Over the last 25 years, BPI has been developing, improving, demonstrating, scaling-up, and commercializing technologies for the conversion of bio-mass to bio-products that decrease capital costs, minimize energy requirements, improve conversion rates & yields, and increase profit margins.
Specialties & Expertise: ethanol process improvements, biomass pretreatment & hydrolysis, bio-reactor design, fermentation systems, microorganism development & improvement, distillation / bio-separation systems, lignocellulosic ethanol production, bio-diesel production, starch / sugar / whey ethanol conversion, sugar processing, waste water handling, waste paper / fiber / pulp processing, ABE fermentation, and organic acid production.
- High Speed / Low Effluent (HS/LE) fermentation process allowing fermentation of high alcohol percentage beers (12% – 15%) in as little as four hours.
- Continuous Reactor Separator (CRS) bioreactor system that simultaneously produces and strips ethanol and VOC’s- increasing the rate & efficiency of fermentations.
- Low Temperature Steep Delignification (LTSD) pretreatment process that breaks biomass into a cellulose & hemicellulose rich ‘pulp’ stream and a lignin rich stream.
BPI works in collaboration with industry partners, government agencies, & other companies on research projects, technology development, and grant applications. BPI has been awarded research grants from: US Dept. of Agriculture (USDA), US Dept. of Energy (DoE), Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA), Great Lakes Biomass Council, Arizona Dept. of Environmental Quality, Indiana Biomass Program, Milk Marketing Board, and others.
Bio-Process research efforts are highly applied with technological improvements designed for industrial application in the efficient and economical production of bio-products in the displacement of petroleum products. To better serve the industry and make process improvements available for commercial application, Bio-Process provides complete process engineering packages and project development services through its associated process engineering company, Applied Bio-Process (ABP), LLC.
Applied Bio-Process, provides process designs and engineering packages allowing for the commercial application of innovative process technologies and systems to increase operational reliability, efficiency, and profitability. The provision of improved process technologies, exceptional engineering, and superior project services minimizes the risk and maximizes the benefits associated with any renewable fuels or bio-refinery project. ABP provides a gamet of engineering support & project services for the development of a biorefining project, from conceptualization to operation.
